One of the best parts of wrapping up a visit to Guatemala is discovering new places to share with clients. Over the summer, we were invited to visit the brand-new Villa Bokéh, a Relaix & Chateau property just outside of Antigua.

Villa Bokéh is the second hotel for Guatemalan-owned Grupo Alta and a sister property to Lake Atitlan’s award-winning Casa Palopó. The beautiful lake-side retreat of Casa Palopó has become a Travel on Purpose favorite because of its understated luxury, artsy design, top-notch hospitality, and do-good initiative to serve their community. So when we were invited to visit their new sister property, Villa Bokéh, we gladly accepted the invitation.

Villa Bokéh is a luxury, twelve-room hacienda in the heart of a six-acre garden, situated in the lush outskirts of Antigua, Guatemala. Upon arrival, we were surprised to find this sprawling estate tucked behind unassuming walls. First impressions revealed dreamy areas of the hacienda's interior spaces, alfresco dining, a pond and walking paths.

We visited some of their guestrooms and were impressed with the uniqueness of each one. All twelve have their own style and are focused on a different color scheme. But what they all have in common is the implantation of local textiles, handmade tiles and glassware along with locally sourced bathroom soaps and lotions. Each room is also equipped with a patio or balcony (some with outdoor bathtubs or fire pits). All rooms have purified drinking water and coffee makers.

The on-site restaurant offers a gourmet fusion of Guatemalan traditional dishes and nouvelle cuisine, and is open for lunch and dinner on a daily basis, with a special brunch on weekends.

The property also boasts a swimming pool and full-service spa. Guests will find a quaint historic greenhouse for special occasions, a plethora of activities for kids and more. The only problem guests will have is deciding how much time to unwind at Villa Bokéh or how much time to dash off to Antigua to explore.

Villa Bokéh opened in 2020 and has already won some pretty impressive awards, including the "Best New Hotels" by Conde Nasté Traveler Magazine. Villa Bokéh is also featured in the Go and Do Good Hotel Directory.

During our visit we learned about how Villa Bokéh is making efforts to help people in their community. They are supporting the Guatemalan economy by resourcing all food and design elements through local businesses. We also learned about efforts to distribute food to organizations with feeding programs.

So if you're looking for a place to stay in the Antigua area that is extra special, this is it. Whether you're celebrating a milestone birthday or anniversary, or simply looking for a luxurious hotel, look no further than Villa Bokéh.
